News From Your VSWGA Club Reps - 8/16/23

A hearty congratulations to JoJo Valente who had a top ten finish in the recently completed Vermont Women’s Amateur Championship at Mount Anthony Country Club! JoJo navigated the tricky layout with a three day total of 234 finishing in a tie for seventh behind the winner, Hailey Katona of Bellows Falls CC.

JoJo is also leading the race for the Janet Lang trophy given to the player who accrues the most points during State Day play throughout the season. Points are adding up for several other PPCC players as we seek to retain the Mae Murray Jones trophy for club points. As of July 31, Lucille Paquette and Pat Martin had the next highest point totals. Good luck to everyone playing the final events and check the website for many new rescheduled dates.

The Women’s Senior Championship was held at Williston Country Club on July 12.  Kristen Schaefer, Liz Fothergill and Pat Martin competed in this event which was shortened to one day due to the flooding.  Lin Culver of Neshobe birdied the first playoff hole to secure the win over Williston’s Gretchen White.

Registration is ongoing for the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship which will be held September 23-24 at Neshobe. It should be a full field, so register now if you plan to play.

The end of the year VSWGA Fall Classic and awards banquet has been moved to the Country Club of Barre due to the flood damage at Quechee.  This is a two person best ball event which takes place on Tuesday September 26.

Registration for both the Mid-Am and the Fall Classic can be done on the VSWGA website.  We will be attending the annual meeting on October 3, so if you have any concerns you would like voiced, please let one of us know. Some players have experienced frustration with the registration process and we will keep you informed if we hear anything regarding this.

Finally, thank you to the volunteers who helped stage another very successful State Day on July 5-Anita Pierce, Nancy Murphy, Sally Leonard, and Donna Williams volunteered to help manage the event.  Thanks also to the entire grounds, pro shop and Redfield’s staff for presenting the course in great condition and taking such great care of all of the players.  We received many compliments from the ladies again this year.
